Underworld Camden (19/6/24 - Missio)
Missio @ The Underworld Camden
I was super excited for this concert, as I had wanted to see the support act The Haunt for years. I'd not seen them since they supported Palaye Royale many years earlier, and given this concert wasn't long after the disaster at Oslo Hackney, I was a little worried that this too wouldn't go well. But I was wrong.
Booking tickets was simple enough, they were booked through Dice, and then I was to contact Underworld Camden directly to organise accessibility needs. I contacted the venue and spoke to a lovely person who got back to me in less than a day. In order to request accessibility, I had to provide my ticket number and proof of disability, which is normal for requesting accessibility at venues. I was very impressed with how quickly this was sorted out for me and without any issues.
Getting to the evening of the concert, I had already had an accessibility issue en route to the gig, so I was really hoping that this night would go well, and I am very glad to say it did, and without any issues! When I arrived, I went to the front of the queue, where they gave me early access before the general public. This gave me time to get to my seating area without any rush or crowding.
The seat was located on a platform to the left of the stage which was monitored by staff, and the only people walking past up there were staff and members of the band's crew. In my opinion Underworld Camden accessibility seating is one of the best I've experienced so far in terms of view of the stage and space from crowds. However, there isn't much leg room to stretch out, and unfortunately, the venue currently has no step-free access. I spoke to a friend of mine who used to work at The Underworld Camden who passed some questions along to current managers for me regarding accessibility, step-free and wheelchair access. They said that the venue is not currently wheelchair accessible; however, they will help where they can to accommodate. There are around 10 steps from the entrance to the inside of the venue, and staff are more than happy to help guests if they are able to get up and down a few steps but just require that little bit of extra help to do so.
Unfortunately I had to leave early because my train got cancelled, so I am unable to share with you what it was like when it came to leaving the venue.
Overall I recommend attending Underworld Camden. They are very prompt when responding to emails, staff are friendly, and the accessibility seating is in a safe area with a great view of the stage. However, there are currently a few limitations with there being no step-free or wheelchair access.
