New Cross Inn (17/10/24 - The Surfrajettes)

I was really intrigued about going to see The Surfrajettes because they were a band I didn't really know that much about. They were also performing at a small venue, which I always enjoy attending because I love to see how small venues can adapt to make the most of their space to accommodate guests with accessible needs.

Booking the tickets was easy enough. This was done directly through the venue's website. Because the New Cross Inn is a smaller venue, I decided to contact them first before purchasing my ticket, as I needed to find out that access to a chair was possible, as it's predominantly a standing venue. After I had sorted access to a chair, I went ahead and booked my ticket without any issue.

On the night of the concert there were no issues entering the venue, as there was no queue because I was there quite early and it was a very small concert (probably less than 100). When I went up to the front desk to get my ticket scanned, I also told them my name and that I was on the accessibility list for a chair. After the lady went away for a few minutes, she came back and said that they had no record of my name, even though I have emails of us going back and forth, so I was a bit confused. Even though I wasn't on the list, this wasn't a problem, as there was plenty of space, and there were about 10 stools dotted around the edge of the venue, which I imagine would've been one of the seats they'd have given me anyway. The rules of the venue were quite laid-back, as it was small and not very full, so I was able to move my stool right next to the stage. The only annoying thing was there was a piece of chewing gum on my seat, and it got stuck in my tights. Gross!

When it came time to leave, it was very simple and easy, as there weren't too many people, so we all filtered outside. The layout of the venue made this easy because the entrance led right into the room of the concert. The New Cross Inn is essentially just one big room.

Overall, I would recommend attending events at the New Cross Inn. The venue is easily accessible, and they have plenty of seating. The only issue I had was them having no record of our conversation. Another thing to note is that the venue on this occasion was only about half full, so I don't know what they're like if working under pressure with a full venue.
